A dream is a wish your heart makes...

And dreams seldom come true, unless you work and wait and they're slightly realistic. But what if wishes could come true? What would you wish for?

There are only three rules to wishing:

  1. You can't wish for more wishes
  2. You can't make someone fall in love with you
  3. You can't bring anyone back from the dead
Simple rules, but they can blow a hole in your wishes. So say you only had three? What would you spend your wishes on?

I brought this up with boyfriend last night, and after failing the above test and wishing for more wishes, he told me he'd probably store the wishes up 'just in case'. A true testament to boyfriend's character: cautious and happy to lead an ordinary life.

My wishes went in the opposite direction. When I wish, I wish for things that would make my life as perfect as possible. A perfect life for me is to be skinny and young forever, with more money than I know what to do with, plenty of friends, lots of travelling and potentially to be famous. All very selfish things. I suppose I could wish for the end to world poverty and hunger, to remove evil from the world, etc etc.

Well, here's the problem with wishes. They can't be granted in the way we watched them happen in Aladdin. If wishes came true, they would come at a price. After all, all magic comes at a price - a common theme in every film, book and tv show ever released. Which means that if I asked for an end to world hunger, the wish would probably just kill off every person who doesn't have access to food. If I were to wish for five hundred million pounds, the wish would probably kill off a rich relative, or I would probably end up in jail for tax evasion, or something equally nasty.

Just an aside... if any of my relatives do have a five hundred million pounds nest egg, can we be best friends?

So I guess I should tailor my wishes carefully. Each one would probably have to be written down and sent through a lawyer, taking note of all the fine print. For example, the following wish:

I wish that myself, my boyfriend, sister, mother, father, aunts, uncles, first cousins, best friends by the names of *insert names here chaps* could be given a paid year off work, with all the usual benefits still included, and no chance that this could affect their future work prospects whatsoever, and could be sent on an all-inclusive round the world cruise which is exempt from any accidents, dangers, extra expenses, annoying tourists, bad weather, man-eating sharks, jellyfish, or anything that could cause a negative aspect to any part of the trip or the time preceding or following the trip.*GASP FOR AIR!!*

I'm sure I've left something imperative out of this wish that will lead to disaster, but I haven't spent that much time thinking it through. But it gives you an idea of how involved each wish has to be. Mental!!!

So those are my thoughts for today. A bit random perhaps. Wishes don't come true, and perhaps in light of the above, that's a good thing. But I would like that round the world cruise....
